Urban Decay Naked2.

It feels as though we've all dislodged ourselves from the sticky seats of the Urban Decay rollercoaster. We've come to (what we hope is) the end of the ride (again). We feel a little queasy and out of pocket, but we've experienced a thrill.

The fist time around, we loved the dazzling heights of holding the almost mythical palette in our grubby hands, bit our nails during the anxious months of waiting for it to restock, and sighed with relief (and good humour) when we'd realised at the end of the day it's only twelve eyeshadows. Twelve beautiful, buttery, neutral-lovers-dream eyeshadows.

Then with the release of the Naked2, we anticipated we'd do it all again. But we didn't. The heights weren't so dazzling, the anxious wait not so anxious. We now have 24 beautiful, buttery, neutral-lovers-dream eyeshadows (or 23, if you consider the repeat of Half Baked to be one).

Hoping to repeat their Naked success, Urban Decay whipped up a sequel. Ask Arnold Schwarzenegger and he'll tell you from experience; sequels are never as successful. Unless it's Terminator 2.

The eyeshadow quality is on par. The colour selection and their relationships to one another just as well thought out. Bootycall over the lid and Tease in the crease is my favourite combination.

The main discernible difference in the two palettes - for me - are the tones. Naked is warm while Naked2 is cool.

The packaging is also very different. While I can't nuzzle at the velveteen like I can with the first, the second is much sturdier, and contains a bigger mirror. The double-ended synthetic brush and miniature lip gloss are strange choices to accompany the palette, I would have preferred an eyeliner and another miniature Primer Potion to be honest.

Both are beautiful, and excellent value for money. But, do you really need both palettes? No. Do you need either? Yes. Which is best for you? That depends on whether or not you prefer warmer tones or cooler tones. Choose which one flatters you most. For me, that's the Naked2.

  1. I love the Naked 2 palette! I never tried the original, because warm toned eyeshadows aren't a favorite of mine. When the Naked 2 came out I was thrilled because cool toned taupes and browns are right up my alley. After mustering up the courage to fork over the $50 to buy it, I was really happy with it. It's one of the only products I've been using for eye makeup ever since I got it. :)

    1. I really love that you enjoy your Naked2 so much. It makes me feel a little guilty at how I've been having to force myself to use it. x

  2. Your commentary echoes the others that I've read- you don't need both Naked palettes; just pick the one that suits you best. I'd love to own one, but the price and the shipping are more than I'd like to pay- I'd sooner take a trip back to Singapore and buy it at Sephora there. I'm tiring of online shopping. And I agree about the eyeliner and the primer potion- they seem more worthy of inclusion than a Lip Junkie and a brush. Lovely post. x

    1. I got my Naked palette from Beauty Bay for $52 with free shipping. They usually sell it for closer to $60, but I got lucky because I constantly kept checking their prices for weeks haha.

MUA (Make Up Academy) has started selling their dupe (almost exact dupe, too!) for the Naked palette called Undressed. It's only 4GBP and their international shipping isn't too bad. I've heard good things about MUA's quality and I'd defs recommend it if you can't afford the Naked palette.

  4. You're right, I would have definitely preferred an eyeliner and primer potion rather than the actual additions. I have the Naked 1 palette still unused (partly because it's too pretty to touch!) and I'm hoping I've made the right choice in terms of skin tone. We shall see xx

  5. Very true that one really does not need both, but really, when you have a cosmetics addiction just seeing those beautiful 12 shades all lined up together make it SO tempting! I love the original, so I am feeling that the Naked2 palette is inevitable...

Thanks for a fabulous review :)

  7. I love the palette too although the brush is pretty crap in my opinion. My favourite shade is pistol

    1. Pistol is gorgeous. I've only swatched it so far I feel as though I'm 'saving' it. x

  8. I have both and still use the original Naked palette more, but still love a few of the shades in this one. Have used the brush a few times when I've been in a pinch and it fared okay, but I would've preferred eyeliners as well.

    1. That's interesting. I find I get them both out at the same time and use a few shades from both. They work together well. x

  9. Thanks for the review!
I own both but I still find myself reaching for the original better. I just can't go past Buck and Naked.
There are some pretty colours in Naked 2 and I like the tin packaging. I hated the lipgloss and the brush though. I'm still glad I bought it, but I definitely prefer the original.

  10. I have the Naked2 and I really do love it.. other then the annoying fallout.. while I think the Naked2 looks better on me I also made my choice on packaging.. the packaging of the Naked palette I have heard can get very dirty.. I'm a neat freak.. so Naked2 it is!
